As part of the implementation of a pedagogical automated production line at Unilasalle Amiens, a solution was found that could save 27,000 euros. The application comprises several steps: Firstly, 3D-printed parts are produced, which are then picked up by a cobot and placed on a hippodrome conveyor belt. The parts are then transported to the quality control station. Another cobot removes the 3D-printed parts from their printing plate and places them in boxes, which are transported to the packaging station. Finally, a cobot picks up the packaged parts and palletises them.

The solution requires cobots for steps 2, 4 and 5. As the budget was limited and the purchase of three cobots at 35,000 euros each was not possible, a cobot was mounted on a 7th axis to take over the function of two cobots at two separate locations (2.5 metres apart). By using the linear axis, we were able to save the cost of one cobot and pay only €8,000 instead of €35,000 for the same functionality.

This innovative solution shows how the use of robotics can both reduce costs and increase efficiency. It also demonstrates various possible applications in industrial robotics for educational purposes.
