CMC - Car Manufacturing Cube: Demonstrating Industry 4.0 with igus XYZ Gantry
At FH Aachen, the CMC - Car Manufacturing Cube demonstrator illustrates the principles and applications of Industry 4.0 in a compact, model factory. Designed to showcase how intelligent workpieces and integrated production equipment enhance flexibility, the system produces individualized cars made from Duplo bricks. Customers can configure their cars via a web store interface, triggering real-time production. To achieve practical and industry-relevant results, an igus XYZ gantry was selected to handle automation tasks. The open-source webshop solution and hierarchical communication protocols ensure seamless integration of warehousing, ordering, financial services, and production, meeting IT security standards.
